The Current State of Girl Scouts: Good! For more than 93 years, Girl Scouts has been the largest organization for girls in this country. We are a strong organization with a proud history and a vital program for girls. Of late, though, we have seen many increasing challenges that require us to embrace change to be our very best.
The Future of Girl Scouts: Beyond Great! What we want for the future of Girl Scouting is excellence and innovation. In the future, Girl Scouts will be:
known as the preeminent organization for personal leadership-development among girls ages 5 -17. a respected voice for girls and an expert on their growth and development and’Ķ Our volunteer and membership system will be a state-of-the-art model where volunteers are able to participate with ease and every girl who wants to join Girl Scouts can be served without any wait.
How We Get There
Girl Scouts of the USA has been working with Jim Collins, author of the best selling business book Good to Great, and Willie Pieterson, author of the highly -respected book on organizational change, Reinventing Strategy. Led by these visionary leaders, teams of Girl Scout volunteers and staff from GSUSA and councils across the nation have been eeting for more than a year to identify the "gaps" between the "good" reality of Girl Scouting now and the "great" vision of our future. Moving Girl Scouting from Good to Great won't happen overnight. As work progresses on the Core Business Strategy, new results will be communicated.
