Q. Do I need to be a troop leader to volunteer?

A. No. There are many ways adults can volunteer to help girls receive the greatest benefits from Girl Scouting including leading song workshops, organizing a community service project, coordinating the cookie sale, chaperoning weekend or field trips, teaching girls about your culture or sharing a hobby, and much, much more.

Q. Who can volunteer?

A. Any interested, responsible adult who has a genuine interest in making a positive difference in girls’ development. Volunteers are required to complete a volunteer application form and become a registered Girl Scout member.

Q. How much time will it take?

A. Every volunteer position can be adjusted to fit even the busiest schedule. Short-term positions involve the time it takes to plan and carry out an activity. Longer commitments require training, planning, weekly and monthly meetings.

Q. What type of training is available?

A. The council provides free basic leader training and a variety of specialized workshops for volunteers. A schedule of trainings is published in August each year.

Q. How much will it cost?

A. All volunteers are expected to become a registered member of Girl Scouts of the USA. The annual membership fee is $10. Other costs will depend on planned activities that are budgeted by each troop and individual interests.

Q. Who will help me?

A. The council provides program resources, trainings for every position and support from professional staff members. Experienced Girl Scout volunteers in your area will also be a great resource and support system.

Q. Are uniforms required?

A. Girl Scouts is a uniformed organization however they are not required. The Girl Scout pin signifies membership in the organization.

Q. Can men volunteer for Girl Scouts?

A. Yes. Men can volunteer in any capacity ranging from serving as a co-leader or board member to offering skills in workshops or managing a troop cookie sale.
