Opportunities for Girls and College Students
Girl Scouting is open to all girls, ages 517, and to women and men over 18 years of age who make the Girl Scout Promise, accept the Girl Scout Law, and pay the annual membership dues of $10.00.
No girl is denied membership due to financial hardship. Scholarships are available. In the Permian Basin council, membership reflects the ethnic, racial, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds of the communities we serve.
Girls
A girl may register to be a Girl Scout as a member of a troop or in-school group or individually as a Juliette or STUDIO 2B member.
The membership staff is dedicated to finding a way to provide a positive, meaningful experience for every girl, everywhere. Contact the membership staff member in your area to find out the best way to get involved!
- Troop: Girls are organized into Girl Scout troops according to the program age levels. Troops vary in size but should be large enough to provide a meaningful experience in self-governance, but small enough to allow for individual growth and development.
Meetings and other activities are scheduled and planned in partnership with the adults working with the troop. Troops often meet weekly but girls and leaders may choose to meet less often depending on school and family schedules. Contact the membership staff in your area for details about forming or joining a Girl Scout troop.
- In-School Groups: Girls participate in Girl Scout program activities during their lunch or PE time periods. This membership delivery method is especially appropriate for girls who are unable to participate in Girl Scouting after school. All girls participating through in-school groups are registered members of Girl Scouts and may participate in any Girl Scout program, event or activity if they are accompanied by an adult. To see if Girl Scouting is offered at your school, contact the membership staff in your area.
- Juliettes: The Juliette program provides an opportunity for all girls, ages 5 17, to be Girl Scouts without being a member of a troop or group. With the support of service unit and volunteer coordinators, girls will receive information about upcoming events and activities, service project opportunities, badge work, as well as special activities just for Juliettes. For details about becoming a Juliette, contact the membership staff in your area.
- STUDIO 2B: STUDIO 2B is the new direction of Girl Scouting for girls from 11 17 years of age. Girls and volunteers will enjoy this fun, dynamic and contemporary way to experience Girl Scouting. STUDIO 2B programs are developed each year to meet the needs of todays older Girl Scout. For additional information about this exciting new initiative, visit www.studio2b.org.
