Girl Scouts of the Permian Basin council was organized in 1947 and is one of 318 Girl Scout councils in the United States. Our council currently serves approximately 3,500 girl members. Nearly 800 adult volunteers support Girl Scouting by sharing professional knowledge or skills with girls, serving as troop leaders or trainers, providing outdoor education, or assisting with the product sale programs. Adults who work with girls are trained and supported by council staff and experienced volunteers. The council is chartered by Girl Scouts of the USA to provide services to Girl Scouts in 18 West Texas counties (see map at left): Andrews, Brewster, Crane, Ector, Gaines, Glasscock, Howard, Jeff Davis, Loving, Martin, Midland, Pecos, Presidio, Reeves, Terrell, Upton, Ward, and Winkler. Board of Directors and StaffThe board of directors is responsible for policy-making and fund development for the The council employs 12 full-time and 5 part-time staff members in three locations within its jurisdiction. Employed staff members are responsible for the daily operations of the council. FinancingThe council is supported by individual contributions, foundations and corporations, product sale programs, United Ways in Andrews, Fort Stockton, Midland and Odessa, Girl Scout Shops, and building rentals. FacilitiesCouncil-owned facilities are available for rentals throughout the year by contacting the facility, a Girl Scout representative in the community or the Council Office.
